Unemployment rates decreased across the Hickory Metro and across much of North Carolina according to the latest update. The report was issued this week by the North Carolina Department of Commerce Labor & Economic Analysis Division and shows the December jobless rates. Catawba County's unemployment rate for December is listed at 2.9 percent, down from 3.6 in November. Alexander County shows a jobless rate of 3.2 percent, down from 3.7. Burke County's December unemployment rate is 2.8 percent, down from 3.
